Meet Nirvana Customer Success Associate Carolyn Surdovel.
A New Jersey native, Carolyn came to Nirvana after working for a major national health insurance company. Carolyn uses her experience to help Nirvana customers get the most out of our platform.
“I think of health insurance as this overlooked but essential life skill,” says Carolyn. “Everybody has to have insurance. You get it through your job or you get it from the marketplace. But no matter what, eventually you are going to need to use it, and so many people have no idea how their insurance works or they are not using it to their full benefit. What I love about Nirvana is that we’re helping people get the most out of their mental health insurance. Most importantly, we don’t discriminate on who gets to use our service. Therapists, clients—anyone who needs it—we are helping them. No one should be left in the dark on how mental health insurance works, because it’s expensive. You really don’t want to leave anything owed to you lying in the corner.”
As someone dedicated to working in the exciting and ever-changing field of healthcare, Carolyn came to Nirvana because she wanted a job that emphasized the compassionate side of healthcare and not just business profits.
“I’ve had my own experiences with mental health and therapy and I’m a big advocate. Even if you are someone who doesn’t have any ‘problems,’ therapy can help you tap into yourself and improve your relationships. No matter how old you are, you can still benefit from therapy because you carry your experiences with you for your whole life. Mental health care is at the forefront right now and I want to be part of that. Everyday people are thinking of therapy less and less as something you only get if you lose a loved one or if you are having a crisis. It’s great to see how that’s changing.”
Carolyn works directly with therapists to onboard them onto Nirvana’s platform and to make sure that both they and their clients have a seamless experience.
“It’s really nice to work for a company that stays true to its mission statement. Every company says it’s for the people, but we all know it’s really about the money. With Nirvana, I genuinely feel like we’re doing a good thing for people and making their lives easier. And I hear that from the therapists I help: Oh my goodness you saved me from such a headache. I have no idea what to say when my clients ask me these questions. It’s so nice that you’re here to help them. It feels good to be proud of where you work.”
