Hello! My name is Courtney Cohen. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based out of New York City, and I am a New York University alumni.
Feeling consumed or overwhelmed by difficult to manage emotions? Can't turn off your racing thoughts? Feeling stuck and struggling to make important decisions? I have experience helping people ages 12-65 improve communication in their relationships, heal from past trauma, and learn how to better cope with negative emotions and stress so they can regain control of their lives. I provide my clients with concrete, valuable tools, as well as a greater understanding into their behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that contribute to self-defeating patterns and conflicted relationships.
I specialize in helping individuals and families deal with anxiety, depression, and children. I am also qualified to help people with anger management, coping skills, emotional disturbances, family conflict, school issues, and trauma and PTSD. I am trained to work with people diagnosed with mood disorders, impulse control disorders, and thinking disorders, BIPOC, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
My approach is integrative and tailored to each individual based on their unique needs. I draw heavily on concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic techniques. By providing a safe and open environment we’ll explore new ways of living that are free from anxiety, self-doubt and self-criticism.
In addition to my work with individuals, I specialize in helping families navigate communication breakdowns and the transitional years of adolescence. No matter the concern, I’d love to learn more about you so that together we can help you achieve the life you’ve always wanted. If you are interested in working together please Email me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
Before your therapy visit, check your coverage with our Peace of Mind Calculator, which estimates how much you'll be reimbursed once you hit your deductible or out-of-pocket max.
Remember superbills, those long invoices you got from your therapist? How about claim forms? You don’t need either of those. We’ll handle your claims electronically and file them for free.
Check the status of your claims with our free Client Portal, which gives you a real-time window into the reimbursement process so you don’t have to worry if the check is in the mail.
We handle your mental health insurance electronically and file your claims for free. We also track the status of your claims and ensure they are processed correctly so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or making frustrating phone calls.
We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.
You only need to make sure we have your most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!
Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.
Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.
Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.
You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.
Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.
We’re glad to answer any questions you have. Email us at help@meetnirvana.com and someone from our Help Desk will reach out to you.
